Artist’s Note: This photograph is from my series Our Mother's Gardens (2020-2022) where I researched and uncovered suppressed images of Black women held in photographic collections at the Art Institute of Chicago. By engaging with these images with the intervention of my hands and my body, I rescued and protected Black women’s bodies and their humanity. In this particular image, I am holding a reprinted vernacular image from the Peter J Cohen collection.
