Artist’s Note: A gas mask is retrofit with shower heads in place of where the filters would typically be. This continual outpouring of water is used to water the garden and wash away debris. As my partner (in life and art) adjusted to living together we started building a garden. This space has provided us a unifying space in which we realized we were able to take care of living things during a time in which we were not able to take care of each other or our loved ones how we might have hoped we could in an emergency. With this mask there is an expression of the deep desire to protect and take care of my queer family/community. Additional info: This work is in collaboration with Kale Roberts who is wearing the mask while sitting inside their collaborative mobile art Gallery, Tailgate Projects.(https://www.tailgateprojects.com/tailgate-projects) Also shown in the image, Flags on the truck by artist Loren Britton "Unraveling the Maypole", 2020 and the custom mural on the truck is by the Milagros Collective 2016.
ART-IN-PLACE is organized by CNL Productions and Terrain Exhibitions.
